๐ŸŒฒ Mannat’s First School Trip to the Ashokan Center ๐ŸŒ„

Last week was a big milestone for my daughter Mannat went on her very first school trip! She was gone for two nights and three days at the beautiful Ashokan Center, surrounded by nature, adventure, and friends. It was the first time she stayed away from home that long, and I have to admit  while I missed her, I couldn’t be prouder of how much she learned and grew in those few days.

๐Ÿน Learning New Skills

Mannat came back full of stories and excitement. She told us about trying archery for the first time, how she learned to aim carefully, stay calm, and celebrate each little success. She also got a taste of history by learning blacksmithing, where she saw how fire and metal come together to create something strong and lasting.

She also loved the team-building games, where everyone had to work together, think creatively, and support each other. It was so heartwarming to hear how they encouraged one another and learned the importance of teamwork.

๐ŸŽ Tastes of Fall

One of Mannat’s favorite parts was making fresh apple cider and apple crisp from scratch! She explained how they used a press to squeeze the apples and how delicious the warm apple crisp tasted after all their hard work. It made her appreciate how food can bring everyone together  and I could tell she really enjoyed every bite!

๐Ÿ•️ Survival and Campfire Magic

The survival class was another highlight. Mannat learned how to build a simple shelter and what to do if you ever need to rely on nature to help you. She came home fascinated by how much nature can provide if you know how to use it wisely.

At night, the group gathered around the firepit to make s’mores, sing songs, and share stories. Mannat said that sitting under the stars with her friends, laughing and roasting marshmallows, was one of her favorite moments. It sounded like such a perfect memory  the kind of childhood experience that stays with you forever.

๐Ÿ Reptiles and Zero Waste Lessons

She also got to meet some incredible animals during the reptile show like as snakes, turtles, and more! She learned that every creature plays a role in nature, even the ones that might seem a little scary at first.

Another lesson that really stood out to her was the zero waste food program. The kids learned how to reduce waste, separate compost, and use leftover food scraps to make compost that helps plants grow. Mannat told me she now wants to start zero wasting at home  a small but meaningful change inspired by her trip!

๐ŸŒฟ Memories to Keep Forever

When Mannat came home, she was tired but glowing  full of joy, stories, and new confidence. I could see how much this trip taught her: independence, teamwork, curiosity, and a deep respect for nature.

Her time at the Ashokan Center wasn’t just a school trip it was a beautiful adventure that helped her grow in so many ways. Watching her talk about everything she learned, from archery to apple cider, I couldn’t help but feel so proud of her courage, curiosity, and excitement for learning.

Here’s to many more experiences like this where kids get to explore, connect with nature, and create memories that will last a lifetime. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ”ฅ
